I grew up around the Seattle area, with rainy-but-mild winters and few excursions to snow. They say in Seattle, if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes! A typical winter outfit would consist of easily-shed-able layers; t-shirt, sweater, jacket, another jacket, scarf… You might start out with all the layers, shed most of them by mid-day, and then be back in them by sundown – unpredictable Seattle weather means being ready for anything. And always carry an umbrella.
Sometimes it’s hard for me to keep warm in Boise winters, while holding onto some semblance of personal style. (And trust me, there are times it’s so frigid, I cast off any care for fashion, and just put on as much clothing as I can safely walk around in!) This winter, I’ve been obsessed with oversize sweaters and leggings. Not a ground-breaking fashion statement, I know; but it keeps me warm, and I keep it trendy with FUN legging patterns and graphic sweaters (like the shiny pants & animal print I wore here.)
Do you know your body type? (I gave advice on that previously, here.) I’m a strawberry, so even though a baggy top isn’t the most streamlined look for my body type, I balance it by wearing a top in solid or darker colors, while playing with bold patterns and color choices on the lower half of my body. If you’re a pear, do the opposite; solids or darker colors on bottom, patterns & visual interest up top!
How do you keep warm and stylish in the winter? (Or do you bother much, when temps are extreme?) Tell me your fashion tips!
